NJHN Daily: Devils Goalie Problem; Islanders Land Coveted Player; Houston Expansion?

I’ll reiterate again that the New Jersey Devils’ third-period collapse doesn’t fall completely on the shoulders of goaltending. The defense was putrid in the final frame on Thursday night, but Jacob Markstrom did not help. They did the same thing on Monday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Except, the difference in them winning that game was Jake Allen.

It’s easy to say, “Just start Allen the rest of the way.” And I’m inclined to agree. However, that doesn’t help the Devils’ No.1 goaltender shake off the rust and get his footing.

The Devils have a goalie problem at a tough time of the season. More on that in the links below.

Elsewhere, Houston expansion? Isles land a top NCAA free-agent, and Sergei Bobrovsky is still the future in Florida.

Let’s do that hockey.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Mathematically, they’re still in it. But, the Pittsburgh Penguins know their season is dead. They’re going with the youth approach, as Mike Sullivan explains how their young guns will get their chance to get NHL minutes. Perhaps, this is something Devil fans want to keep an eye on as their division rival tests their future.

Florida Hockey Now: After the Florida Panthers traded Spencer Knight to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Seth Jones trade, their future in goal became a question. At 36, turning 37 years old in September, their future is still… Sergei Bobrovsky.

NYI Hockey Now: The New York Islanders are the latest team to sign one of the top NCAA free agents, according to a report.

ESPN: Expansion is coming. There have been whispers that Houston could be the latest city to get an NHL team. In fact, “could is putting it lightly.” According to Emily Kaplan, a potential team owner has emerged as an option.
