The New Jersey Devils (37-27-6) may have lost just one game this week in two in their last six, but Thursday’s loss felt sinking. Their third period effort was familiar. They had the luxury of stealing two points earlier in the week despite falling on their heels late. Yet, they knew they needed to be better moving forward.

They weren’t. And Thursday’s loss had the Devils questioning themselves again.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe opted to cancel practice on Friday, seeking rest for his team with six games in the next 10 days.

Whereas starts used to be their issue, the Devils are now hoping to fix closing out their games. That starts tonight against the Ottawa Senators (36-27-5), who have lost their last two games.
