The New Jersey Devils announced on Tuesday that they’ve signed University of Michigan defenseman, Ethan Edwards, to a two-year, entry-level contract.

For the remainder of the 2024-25 season, Edwards will sign a standard American Hockey League contract, and report to the Utica Comets.

Edwards (22) is former teammates with Luke Hughes and Seamus Casey in their NCAA tenures, winning two NCAA Big Ten Championships between 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Edwards also received Big Ten All-Academic Honors in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

According to the press release, “Edwards, 22, completed his senior season at the University of Michigan and recorded 21 points (5g-16a) in 36 games. The 6’0”, 195lbs. defenseman’s 21 points marked a career-high at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) level and led all Michigan blueliners. The left-handed shot’s 40 penalty minutes also ranked first on the team.”

The Devils selected Edwards in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft, 120th overall.

His EliteProspects profile reads, “It’s Edwards skating and high activity rate that informs so much of his value. He’s so aggressive carrying the puck up-ice in transition, and he tirelessly works to support the puck in the offensive zone. The same is true of the way that Edwards defends, whether it’s in the neutral zone or defensive zone, he closes in on puck-carriers and plays with decisiveness.”

Edwards will attend Devils training camp in September, the first professional training camp in his hockey career.
