NJHN Daily: Positive Devils Developments; Offer Sheet Boom Coming This Summer

Luke Hughes is unlikely to ever sign an offer sheet to leave the New Jersey Devils. He’s going to stay with his brother in Newark, and the Hughes brothers could very well be life-long Devils. Luke aside, there is an NHL offer sheet boom that is coming. Michael Russo and Chris Johnston explain why in the links below.
Speaking of Luke, his ascension this season has been something to marvel at. More on why he’s becoming the No.1 defenseman in New Jersey below.
Elsewhere, an “all out battle” in Pittsburgh, Patrick Roy gets hyper critical of top player, and San Jose regrets passing up on a physical response.
Let’s do that hockey.

New Jersey Hockey Now: According to one NHL insider, coupled with the news that he’s back on his skates, Dougie Hamilton could return to the Devils sooner than anticipated.

San Jose Hockey Now: Ex-Devils top prospect, Shakir Mukhamnadullin, was injured in a game against the Anaheim Ducks. It was a brutal looking injury that San Jose Sharks head coach, Ryan Warsofsky, admits the team should have responded to Frank Vatrano’s recklessness.
NYI Hockey Now: The New York Islanders were once inching closer to a playoff spot. Now, they’re slipping further away. Amid their struggles, head coach Patrick Roy expects more from their big summer acquisition, Anthony Duclair, who he absolutely ripped after their last game.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Perhaps the Pittsburgh Penguins didn’t anticipate this, but Tristan Jarry is back. Sure, it’s a short sample size amid a low-pressure schedule where the Penguins are basically eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs. But with him back in the mix and two other viable goaltenders readily available, GM Kyle Dubas expects an “all out battle.”
Ottawa Hockey Now: If you don’t recognize Jake Sanderson by name, you better start. The Ottawa Senators defenseman is an ascending star, and he joined an exclusive group in Senators history yesterday.
The Athletic ($): At the end of last summer, a bomb was dropped on the Edmonton Oilers when the St. Louis Blues converted on not one, but two offer sheets for Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg. Here’s why NHL execs are predicting a “boom” in offer sheets in the upcoming summer. The Devils better get Luke Hughes locked up, and soon.
