The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Shane LaChance to a two-year entry-level contract, a report says.

Lachance will sign an American Hockey League (AHL) Standard Player Contract for the remainder of the 2024-25 season and report to Utica.

The Devils acquired LaChance at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline for facilitating the trade that sent Trent Frederic to the Edmonton Oilers via the Boston Bruins. New Jersey retained 50% of Frederic’s salary.

LaChance scored 18 goals and 30 points in 40 games with Boston University this season. Across two seasons at Boston University, LaChance accrued a total of 25 goals and 32 assists for 57 points in 80 games.

The BU captain lost in NCAA Championship on Saturday at the hands of Western Michigan University 6-2. LaChance provided one of Boston’s two goals on three shots in the loss.

The 6-foot-5, 218-lb forward was teammates with fellow Devils prospect Mikhail Yegorov at Boston University.

LaChance was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the sixth round, 186th overall, in the 2021 NHL Draft. His father, Scott LaChance, is head of U.S. scouting in New Jersey.

The Devils’ newest forward was named the first sophomore captain in Boston University (BU) men’s hockey history in 2024, showcasing his leadership.

The Edmonton Oilers drafted LaChance in the sixth round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, 186th overall. He attended three Oilers development camps (2022–24), noted for his high hockey IQ and versatility, playing alongside top college talents like Macklin Celebrini.

The Devils forward boasts an outlook that praises his size, leadership, and net-front presence. Renowned coaches such as BU’s Jay Pandolfo have highlighted his natural leadership and NHL potential. LaChance is a third-generation BU Terrier as the grandson of legendary BU coach Jack Parker and his father, Scott, an NHL veteran.
