NJHN Daily: Rutherford Drops Bomb; Devils Family Reunion; NYR Distracted by ‘Noise’

For fans of the New Jersey Devils, it certainly felt like a pinch themselves moment, despite being in the midst of a playoff series. For the Vancouver Canucks GM to admit what they’ve been thinking all along was shocking, even if it was an unspoken truth. But that’s just the thing. The fact that it was spoken is almost a signal. Perhaps, the Vancouver GM is bracing the Canucks faithful for disappointment, despite throwing in that maybe he’ll reel in Quinn Hughes’ brothers.
But, in all honesty, what’s more likely?
More on that in the links.
Elsewhere, the New York Rangers have a tough day of reflection as they clear out their lockers, Gabriel Landeskog on NHL ice, and Philly’s coaching search.
Let’s do that hockey.
Devils News
New Jersey Hockey Now: The Devils don’t want to get distracted amid a playoff series, but yesterday’s revelation about Quinn Hughes is hard to look away from. He wants to play with his brothers, according to Vancouver’s GM. What’s the path of least resistance? One player moving, or two? Let’s not jump to conclusions, but you can almost see where this is going.
NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now
The Athletic ($): The New York Rangers, shocked to be cleaning out their lockers so early this year, reflect on a year when ‘something broke,’ and Chris Drury’s trade memo that caused a stir.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins seemingly can’t get back to their winning ways from their days of glory. They still have Sid, Geno, and Kris Letang. They still have Mike Sullivan. They’ve already handed out commitment to the players. Yet, a coaching change seems unlikely.
Colorado Hockey Now: Gabriel Landeskog has officially been activated off the long-term injured reserve. He’s fully available to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Colorado Avalanche. He even took warmups last night. A return to NHL games appears imminent.
Philly Hockey Now: Certainly something Devils fans want to keep an eye on here. Philadelphia Flyers GM Daniel Briere addressed the coaching search, what qualities he’s looking for in a bench boss, and who could be in the running.
