NJHN Daily: Devils Already Adding; Hagens Hopes for Islanders; Captain Celebrini?

The New Jersey Devils were not involved in the draft lottery as a playoff team this year. In fact, they don’t even have a first-round pick to use in the draft after sending it to Calgary for Jacob Markstrom last summer. However, the NHL Draft just got much more enticing to follow after the New York Islanders jumped from 10th overall to first via the lottery.

There’s no clear-cut No.1 selection in the 2025 prospect pool, but it seems most lean toward Matthew Schaefer. However, there’s an argument for Michael Misa and James Hagens, although the latter isn’t quite seen as high a prospect as the aforementioned.

Still, the local Long Island narrative is a real one, giving Hagens a real chance to play for the team he grew up cheering for, and that’s exactly what he’s hoping for.

Elsewhere in the links, the Devils have already added as their offseason is underway, Simon Nemec’s future could be saved, captain Macklin Celebrini, and more.

Let’s do that hockey.

Newsday ($): James Hagens, a top prospect in the 2025 NHL Draft, is a local Long Islander. He bleeds orange and blue, and is hoping for a future with the New York Islanders who own the first overall pick.

San Jose Hockey Now: Logan Couture’s career has, unfortunately, come to an end. That means the San Jose Sharks don’t currently have a captain. Could Macklin Celebrini be named the new leader? Mike Grier discusses that and more.

Colorado Hockey Now: There was a lot for the Colorado Avalanche to discuss at their disappointing season-end conference, including the Mikko Rantanen situation that was puzzling then, and even more puzzling now.

Florida Hockey Now: Sam Bennett is one of the reasons why the Florida Panthers are so difficult to play against. He’s both an agitator and skilled player, a rare breed in today’s game. A controversial collision with Toronto Maple Leafs Anthony Stolarz landed the goaltender in the hospital. However, no discipline was handed to Bennett. He spoke on the incident Tuesday afternoon.

NYI Hockey Now: The New York Islanders are on the hunt for a new President of Hockey Operations and General Manager. Rumors are swirling about, but Russ Macias says there are only two candidates the Isles should consider.

Philly Hockey Now: Here’s an interesting thought. Could the rebuilding Philadelphia Flyers who sit at sixth overall in the NHL Draft trade up to pick in the top-5?

Montreal Hockey Now: In the Islanders’ search for new management, it’s been revealed they have interest in luring in current or former Montreal Canadiens management.
