Fans of the New Jersey Devils who were a bit shaken by a rumor about Sergei Brylin can breathe a sigh of relief.

The Devils assistant coach isn’t going anywhere.

A report surfaced from overseas earlier this week suggesting that Brylin was in consideration for the CSKA Moskva head coaching gig, an organization he played for before his career in the NHL began. CSKA fired previous head coach Ilya Vorobyov after he failed to get the KHL club past the second round.

We’re not debating whether CSKA Moskva is considering him or not as an option for the job.

However, according to a source, Brylin has no desire to leave New Jersey, the only NHL organization he’s played for and worked with since 1994-95 and the Devils organization has no desire to see him leave, either.

Brylin will be back behind the Devils’ bench as one of Sheldon Keefe’s assistants in 2025-26.

Last week, the Devils announced they made changes to the coaching staff.

Assistants Ryan McGill and Chris Taylor did not have their contracts renewed. Head video coach Jerry Dinnen and Comets Assistant Coach David Cunniff did not have their contracts renewed, either.

Although Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald was open and honest about changes after he considered their 2024-25 season “not good enough,” Brylin will not be one of the changes made.

Fitzgerald and Keefe are actively leading the search to fill the roles that were announced as vacant last week.

Earlier this year, New Jersey honored Sergei Brylin as their third Ring of Honor inductee with a pre-game ceremony on January 20 before they took on the Dallas Stars.
