NYI Hockey Now: Seven summers ago, John Tavares shocked the New York Islanders when he chose his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs over the team that drafted him first overall in 2009. His goal? To win the Stanley Cup, where he was born and raised. However, that contract has un up, and whether he remains in Toronto or not, Russ Macias say’s his leaving Long Island is officially a failure.

Speaking of the Islanders, it sounds like their GM search is narrowing itself down. Frank Seravalli reports sources indicate it’s a two-horse race between the Los Angeles Kings senior advisor, Marc Bergevin, and Tampa Bay Lightning Assistant GM Mathieu Darche.

Vegas Hockey Now: Hannah Kirkell explained that the Vegas Golden Knights should not blow up the roster, despite their lack of youth and draft picks. Now, looking over their pending free agents, Kirkell explains who should stay in Sin City, and who should go.

Philly Hockey Now: Despite the criticism, Mitch Marner is a superstar. The Philadelphia Flyers are going to be aggressive in the offseason. Could the 28-year-old forward leave his hometown for the Devils’ rival?

Sportsnet: Matthew Tkachuk speaks the hard truth about the Maple Leafs’ demise. Without the outside noise, they would be an “unbelievable team.” They just couldn’t beat the war between the ears.
