The dust has settled on the New Jersey Devils’ season.

General manager Tom Fitzgerald‘s season end presser made it quite clear that although the Devils progressed from their putrid 2023-24 finish, they were not satisfied with the results of their 2024-25.

Injuries or not, Fitzgerald made it known he’s determined to build a winner.

He started last spring, reeling in first Jake Allen, then Jacob Markstrom in the summer, and then added Brett Pesce, Brenden Dillon, Stefan Noesen, Johnathan Kovacevic, and Paul Cotter as key contributors.

A hot winter buoyed New Jersey in the standings. However, a rough spring saw the Devils make the playoffs in unconvincing fashion, just to be bounced in the first round.

The fact of the matter is a roster that holds two Hughes brothers, Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, and Timo Meier should probably have had a better chance against the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round. Devil’s advocate?

There were extenuating circumstances and tough injury luck, whereas Carolina was lucky to be mostly healthy.

Still, there are a lot of questions heading into this offseason. With the Stanley Cup Conference Final series’ on the backend, those questions could be answered sooner than later.

However, you might have questions now.

Submit your questions in the comment section below. We will answer the five best, and perhaps do a multipart mailbag with enough submissions.
