NJHN Daily: Devils Domino Falls; UFA Target Off the Board; Major Tkachuk Injury Revealed

Well, that was fast. Less than 24 hours after the Florida Panthers captured their second Stanley Cup in as many seasons, the New Jersey Devils got the official offseason going with a trade.
If they’re going to be serious about upgrading, they need to shed some salary to reel in higher quality players. Yesterday was a good start. More on that below in the links.
Elsewhere, a couple of Devils targets this summer come off the board, Matthew Tkachuk reveals his MAJOR injury, and the NHL may kick Edmonton while they’re down.

New Jersey Hockey Now: The first domino in the Devils’ offseason has fallen. General manager Tom Fitzgerald moved Erik Haula in a Devils trade to the Nashville Predators. The retrieved a pick and a prospect, but it was really about the cap space.

NHL.com: Devils fans are going to have to get used to seeing Matt Rempe around a little while longer. He signed a two-year extension with the New York Rangers on Wednesday.
DailyFaceoff: Here’s an interesting one. Frank Seravalli reveals the NHL may kick the Edmonton Oilers while they’re down after losing in the Stanley Cup Final. The league plans to look further into their LTIR usage via Evander Kane, who returned from injury in the second round of the postseason.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: One of the key pieces of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2016 and 2017 is returning to the organization for a third time, but not as a player. Former Penguins center Nick Bonino announced via social media video that he has ended his playing career and is joining the Penguins coaching staff with new head coach Dan Muse.
Chicago Hockey Now: Well, that’s one Devils free agent option off the board. Fresh off a breakout, 30-plus goal performance, Ryan Donato signed a four-year extension to remain with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Florida Hockey Now: This is why hockey players are unmatched. Matthew Tkachuk revealed on Tuesday night that he played through SERIOUS injury en route to helping the Florida Panthers hoist their second consecutive Stanley Cup.
