SIGNED: Devils Ink Jake Allen to Multi-Year Extension
The New Jersey Devils are keeping Jake Allen around, inking the veteran goaltender to multi-year extension, avoiding free agency.

It went down to the wire, but the New Jersey Devils are keeping Jake Allen around.
The Devils inked Allen to a five-year extension, carrying a $1.8 million average annual value. Now, New Jersey will be able to run it back with Allen as Jacob Markstrom’s backup at least one more time.

Allen was set to head to the open market later today and was widely viewed as the top goaltender available on the open market. However, Allen and the Devils avoided that possibility with the new extension that solidifies New Jersey’s goaltending, a strength of theirs in the 2024-25 season.
Allen explained back in May he was unsure of what his future held. However, he wasn’t going to shut the door on New Jersey.
“Yeah, I mean, I’m always open. I’m never going to shut a door,” Allen explained on breakup day. “Like I said, I enjoyed my time here. My family has a good setup, but we’ll let those things take care of themselves and see where we come in July.”
Allen was a crucial piece for the Devils when Jacob Markstrom unexpectedly missed a month of play due to injury. The 34-year-old netminder started nine out of 10 games for the Devils in Markstrom’s absence, collecting a 4-5-0 record, with a .919 SV% and 2.30 GAA.
In 31 games played for the Devils in 2024-25, Allen accrued a 13-16-1 record, registering four shutouts, a .906 SV%, and 2.66 GAA. He finished the regular season as a top-10 goaltender in goals saved above expected, ranking ninth with 18.4 GSAx.
Allen’s return rounds out a trio of goaltender’s in New Jersey for next season that includes Allen, Markstrom, and Nico Daws, who is seeing his two-year contract upgrade from a two-way deal, to a one-way contract.
It’s not out of the question that the Devils look to move Daws in a trade this summer.
