Devils Sign Depth Forward, Two Depth Defensemen
Angus Crookshank, Calen Addison, and Dennis Cholowski are all likely Uitca-bound.

The New Jersey Devils are making three depth adds on the first day of free agency. They’ve signed forward, Angus Crookshank, defenseman, Calen Addison, and are bringing back blueliner, Dennis Cholowski.
The Devils acquired Cholowski from the New York Islanders at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline. In six games with New Jersey, he registered no points and was a minus-four. The 27-year-old defenseman’s deal is a one-way contract, worth $775K.
Crookshank and Addison are newcomers. Each is 25 years old, and missed most, if not all of the 2024-25 NHL season. They’ve both received two-way contracts, Crookshank earning $475K in year one, and $425K in year two. Addison will make $325K in year one, and $400K in year two.
Formely property of the Ottawa Senators, Crookshank has seen his fair share of success at the American Hockey League level. In each of the last three seasons, the native of North Vancouver has scored 22 or more goals, potting 26 in the 2022-23 season. Last year, Crookshank scored 22 goals and 40 points for the Beleville Senators in 62 games. He’s accrued two goals and four points in 21 NHL games.
Addison had an excellent season from the blueline playing for both the Henderson Silver Knights and Springfield Thunderbirds. In 62 games, Addison potted five goals and 31 assists for 36 points.
Addison, however, is a bit of a forgotten gem, finding decent success at the NHL level. In the 2022-23 season, Addison potted three goals and 26 assists for 29 points skating for the Minnesota Wild. He was less successful in 2023-24 after the Wild traded him to the San Jose Sharks where he scored a goal and 11 assists in 60 games.
He’s a former second round pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2018 NHL Draft.
The Devils are almost certainly adding to their depth chart, and it’s likely each of these three signings will end up with the Utica Comets.
