Glass, 26, was tendered a qualifying offer by the Devils on June 30, after earlier reports indicated the Devils were not going to do so. Instead of accept the qualifying offer to play another year at a $2.5 million cap hit, Glass signed for an additional year to stay in New Jersey for at least the next two seasons.

“I wanted to stay the whole time, so I’m glad something got done,” Glass said of signing the new extension.

The decision to extend Glass comes after a sample where he showcased a touch of offense, but more so his value as a defensively reliable center. Acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 7, 2025, in exchange for Chase Stillman, Max Graham, and a 2027 third-round pick, Cody Glass made an immediate impact. In 14 regular-season games with New Jersey, he recorded seven points (two goals, five assists), shooting at a 33.3% clip, and demonstrating his ability to handle tough matchups in a third-line role.

Originally selected sixth overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Draft, Glass has played 252 career NHL games across four teams, amassing 93 points (35 goals, 58 assists). Glass is projected to be part of a re-made bottom six that will host a mix of newcomers such as Evgenii Dadonov, Connor Brown, and Arseni Gritsyuk.

The signing leaves New Jersey with $6,094,167 million in cap space, with defenseman Luke Hughes still needing a contract extension.
