Devils Daily: Defense or Goaltending? Night of the ‘Michigan’

Published

New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils went home last night with a sigh of relief, as did their fans. New Jersey broke a three-game skid that had the morale in the locker room “disappointed” according to head coach Lindy Ruff. For now, that’s subsided as we head into the holiday and the Devils are back in the win column.

In the links, an argument for the Devils to add a defenseman over a goaltender. Elsewhere, it was “Michigan” night around the league, you gotta see what a Habs prospect did at World Juniors, and what’s the Isles GM up to?

Let’s do that hockey.

New Jersey Devils

New Jersey Hockey Now: Timo Meier broke a nine-game pointless streak in the Devils’ 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Read up on the takeaways from Saturday night.

NY Post: Larry Brooks takes a look at the history of adding a goaltender mid-season and argues the Devils should add a defenseman as opposed to a netminder.

Chicago Blackhawks

Chicago Hockey Now: Connor Bedard is not only the most impressive rookie this season, but he might be one of the most impressive players overall. On Saturday night, the 18-year-old phenom pulled off the “Michigan” against the St. Louis Blues.

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal Hockey Now: Montreal Canadiens prospect Lane Hutson is off to a great start for Team USA at the 2024 World Junior Championship. In case you missed it, you gotta see the play he made yesterday against Team Canada.

Calgary Flames

Calgary Hockey Now: Have you ever wondered what exactly the talking heads on the Fan 960 or Sportsnet mean when they say that Calgary has adopted a “zone defence” this year? How different could it be if the Flames are once again hovering around a .500 winning percentage by late December? Luckily, we have a quick breakdown of the Calgary Flames defensive zone changes in 2023-2024.

Detroit Red Wings

Detroit Hockey Now: The Red Wings recalled prospect defenseman Simon Edvinsson before their tilt with the Devils last night. He’s been a plus player for Detroit’s AHL affiliate and they’re hoping his game will translate to the NHL.

New York Islanders

NYI Hockey Now: Fans of the New York Islanders have a lot of words they like to use to describe team president Lou Lamoriello. One adjective that doesn’t relate to him, though, is passive.
