The New Jersey Devils play their final game of 2023 against the Boston Bruins on Saturday night. After securing a victory against the Ottawa Senators on Friday, the Devils snuck back into playoff position. New Jersey will look to pad their positioning tonight against the Bruins with the hopes of going into the New Year on a high note.

The Devils manhandled the Ottawa Senators on Friday night en route to a 6-2 victory. Nico Daws was solid in his season debut stopping 25 pucks on 27 shots. Jesper Bratt collected four points (1g, 3a) while the Hughes brothers each scored a goal and two assists. Dawson Mercer collected his fourth point over his last two games scoring an assertive goal after driving the net. Tyler Toffoli sniped home one of Bratt’s three assists, and Brendan Smith tallied his first goal as a member of the Devils.

Player to Watch

Jack Hughes tied his own record on Friday for most -multi-point games through the first 35 games of the season. Hughes registered his 12th following the three-point night. Another multi-point effort tonight would place him second all-time in New Jersey’s franchise for the most multi-point games through 35 games behind only John MacLean (14). His 1-2-3 last night accounts for 38-63—101 in 2023. That makes him the first player in Devils/Rockies/Scouts history to record as many regular season points in a calendar year.

The Devils defeated Beantown in the first matchup for 2023-24, after the squad earned a 2-1 overtime victory at the Rock on Dec. 13.

The win witnessed Jack Hughes net his second overtime winner for the 2023-24 campaign, while netminder Vitek Vanecek collected his third career overtime assist with the Devils.
