Devils Daily: Back-to-Backs Hindering New Jersey

Published

on

New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils have a few issues this season. The defense is dreadful. The goaltending is even worse. And when it comes to playing in back-to-back games, their record in the latter half of those contests is 1-6-1 following another loss last night.

Brutal.

Looking ahead, the Devils have eight more back-to-backs in the remaining 47 games this season. You can pin that on defense or goaltending if you’d like. However, coaching certainly comes into play in this situation. Head coach Lindy Ruff has taken the grunt of responsibility before in not having his team prepared to play. The growing concern with games on consecutive days falls under that umbrella of responsibility for Ruff.

Elsewhere, Pittsburgh suddenly has a good problem in goal, Colorado’s Samuel Girard opens up, & a save-of-the-year candidate in Nashville.

Let’s do that hockey.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The National Hockey League is bereft of quality goaltenders. It seems those who have one, have several. Those who are missing one, have none. To the surprise of some, the Pittsburgh Penguins fall into the former.

Boston Bruins

Boston Hockey Now: In this new wave, more offensive-minded NHL, even Stanley Cup-contending teams like the Boston Bruins, are finding themselves ‘overwhelmed’ late in games they thought they had secured the two points in.

Colorado Avalanche

Colorado Hockey Now: After practice on Saturday, Samuel Girard spoke to the media for around four minutes discussing his decision to enter the program, and why he needed to do it.

Nashville Predators

Nashville Hockey Now: The save Juuse Saros made with a little over five minutes left in the first period of Friday’s 5-4 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings ranks right up there among the best of his career, and it’s quite possibly the new betting favorite for Save of the Year.

San Jose Sharks

San Jose Hockey Now: The San Jose Barracuda are hosting the league’s annual All-Star Classic on Feb. 4 and 5 at Tech CU Arena. Here’s a first look at what the AHL All-Star teams will be wearing in February in San Jose.
