Devils Daily: Back in Playoff Position

Published

New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils are officially back in playoff position. New Jersey routed the Ottawa Senators on Friday night in a 6-2 victory. Goaltender Nico Daws was strong in his debut. More on that in the links below.

The Devils received a little bit of help on Long Island to regain playoff position. The New York Islanders defeated the Washington Capitals in regulation last night, allowing New Jersey to jump the Caps in the standings. The Devils have the opportunity to pad their place in the standings with two more points tonight, although they’ve been pretty bad on the second leg of back-to-backs this season.

In the links, plenty to read up on about the Devils’ goaltending including Daws’ performance on Friday, how he’s feeling post-surgery, and Akira Schmid getting roughed up in his return to the AHL.

Elsewhere, Evgenii Malkin is okay flying under the radar in Pittsburgh, is Boston on the brink of a big goaltender extension? And a former NHLer is in hot water overseas in the KHL.

Let’s do that hockey.

New Jersey Devils

New Jersey Hockey Now: Devils goaltender Nico Daws explains he’s feeling the best he ever has following his hip surgery. The German-born goaltender opened up about how it’s specifically helping improve his game in the crease.

More NJHN: The Devils dominated the Ottawa Senators, cruising to a 6-2 victory on Friday night. Daws was solid in his season debut, meanwhile, Jesper Bratt and the Hughes brothers turned in big performances.

Even More: Meanwhile, in his return to the AHL, Akira Schmid is roughed up for five goals. That’s not the way the Devils’ organization wanted things to start for the Swiss goaltender.

NHL.com: Kevin Bahl spent his Junior career in Ottawa playing for the 67’s. His billet family was in attendance at his 100th NHL game Friday night when the Devils visited the Senators.
