Another Injury, Devils Veteran Forward Out vs. Capitals
Devils Ondrej Palat is out vs. Capitals with a lower-body injury.
Injuries are mounting again. The New Jersey Devils were already going to be down a key forward heading into Wednesday’s contest with the Washington Capitals. Star forward Timo Meier suffered what’s described as a “mid-body” injury against the Boston Bruins last Saturday and hasn’t returned to on-ice action since. Now, New Jersey announced Ondrej Palat is out on Wednesday against the Capitals in Washington.
The Devils disclosed that Palat is out with a lower-body injury. On Wednesday, head coach Lindy Ruff indicated that the Devils could play with 11 forwards and seven defensemen against the Capitals.
Although the Devils recalled their top forward prospect, Graeme Clarke, the 22-year-old forward will not draw into the lineup, despite New Jersey missing a handful of forwards. Clarke met the New Jersey in Washington earlier this morning.
Following the Devils’ 6-3 victory over the Capitals, head coach Lindy Ruff addressed Palat’s absence. He explained the veteran forward might be out for a couple more games.
“He left practice after the first shooting drill (on Tuesday),” Ruff explained. “He’s being evaluated and is likely unavailable for the next few games.”
Through 35 games this season, Palat scored five goals and 14 points. He’s a minus-5 rating.
