Devils Daily: Eastern Conference Playoff Race; Habs Targeting Zegras

New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils won’t hit the ice for skate this morning. They host the New York Rangers tonight at 7 PM and the media will speak with head coach Lindy Ruff at 5 PM.

It’s another in-division, four-point game against the Devils’ rival in New Jersey’s quest to regain playoff position.

Yesterday, the Devils recalled their breakout rookie goaltender from the AHL. It’s likely, however, that the start goes to Nico Daws, which would be his sixth in a row.

Elsewhere, Pittsburgh’s GM opens up about his plans for his team ahead of the March 8th trade deadline, Montreal is targeting a big-name center in Anaheim, and because the Devils dropped their game to Washington on Tuesday, it made Phill’ys path to the playoffs a bit easier.

Let’s do that hockey.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

NY Post: Jonny Brodzinski inked a two-year, one-way extension — which holds an average annual value of $787,500 — with the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Pittsburgh Penguins GM Kyle Dubas addressed the possibility of a trade, as well as Jake Guentzel’s future, Mike Sullivan’s requests, and why you should not expect to see a tear it down, burn it down, rebuild.

Montreal Hockey Now: The Montreal Canadiens are on the lookout for young offensive talent and it looks like they have a target in mind in Anaheim. It’s Trevor Zegras.

San Jose Hockey Now: Mikael Granlund has outperformed expectations with the San Jose Sharks. According to head coach David Quinn, if the Sharks trade Granlund it will have to be for a hefty price. Quinn doesn’t want Granlund going anyway.

NYI Hockey Now: The New York Islanders bounced back from their Stadium Series meltdown and now need to build momentum with time running out to get back into playoff position.

Philly Hockey Now: Because the Devils didn’t capitalize in their Tuesday night tilt, the Philadelphia Flyers‘ playoff path is a bit clearer now.
