NEWARK — According to a report, the New Jersey Devils are listening to offers on defensemen Brendan Smith and Colin Miller.

Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli was the first to report.

The Devils held Tyler Toffoli out of Thursday night’s tilt with the St. Louis Blues for trade-related reasons. They did not hold Smith out, however, Miller was a healthy scratch in favor of rookie defenseman Simon Nemec.

Smith is in the final year of a two-year contract with the Devils. It carries a cap hit of $1.1 million. Smith has made his presence felt this season, upping his physicality. Specifically, Smith’s most notable moment this season was laying a massive, clean check on Chicago Blackhawks rookie Connor Bedard. In defending Bedard, Smith also downed veteran forward Nick Foligno by dropping the mitts.

In 44 games this season, Smith’s netted three goals and nine points.

The Devils acquired Miller this summer from the Dallas Stars with one year remaining on his contract that holds a $1.85 million cap hit.

Miller (31) has four goals and eight points in 41 games for the Devils this season.

The Devils are in the midst of a down season and, therefore, appear to be selling some expiring contracts despite their aspirations for the playoffs.

That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re labeled as “sellers,” however, as Tom Fitzgerald continues to make calls on goaltenders with term.

Fitzgerald has also reportedly been in the market for Arizona Coyotes forward Jason Zucker. It appears Fitzgerald is reassessing his roster makeup. Zucker is also a pending free agent, however.

The NHL Trade Deadline closes at 3 P.M. today. There is a chance all of Toffoli, Smith, and Miller are no longer on the Devils roster.
