NEWARK — The New Jersey Devils traded forward Tyler Toffoli on Friday to the Winnipeg Jets. In exchange, New Jersey is receiving draft picks from the Jets.

The first to report the trade was TSN’s Darren Dreger.

The draft picks the Devils are receiving are a 2025 second-round and 2024 third-round pick. New Jersey is retaining 50% of Toffoli’s contract.

Toffoli (31), was scratched from Thursday night’s lineup in the Devils’ 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Interim head coach Travis Green explained Toffoli’s absence was for “trade deadline precautionary reasons.”

Toffoli leaves the Devils as New Jersey’s leading goal scorer. The veteran winger netted 26 goals in 61 games for the Devils. He also collected 44 points.

On Tuesday, general manager Tom Fitzgerald explained he wasn’t shopping the New Jersey forward with the hopes that New Jersey could come to terms with an extension with Toffoli. However, Fitzgerald also explained there was a rift between the two sides on term, thus leading to a Devils’ trade with the Jets, acquiring some assets in return for the sniper.

Winnipeg is now the fourth Canadien-based team Toffoli will play for. Previously the 31-year-old forward skated for the Vancouver Canucks, Montreal Canadiens, and Calgary Flames. He also played for the Los Angeles Kings who drafted him in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft.

Reports suggest Tom Fitzgerald may not be done dealing. The Devils are also taking calls on defensemen Brendan Smith and Colin Miller.

New Jersey acquired Toffoli last summer in exchange for Yegor Sharangovich and the 80th overall pick in the 2023 draft (Aydar Suniev).
