Devils Daily: Former Devil, Current Wild GM Under Investigation

It almost feels like there’s some significant off-ice news in the NHL once a week this season. The latest news isn’t exactly New Jersey Devils related, however, it does involve a former Devil, Current Wild GM Bill Guerin—more on that in the links.

The Devils were off yesterday following their Wednesday night victory over the Boston Bruins. They’ll hit the ice this morning for practice ahead of their contest with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Speaking of the Jackets, they blew a FIVE-goal lead they held heading into the third period. Kent Johnson won it in overtime, but the Toronto Maple Leafs were able to net five pucks in a 19:15 span. That’s what the Devils have ahead of them tomorrow.

In the links, we looked at where the Devils’ highest-paid forward belongs in the lineup.

Elsewhere, a former Devil is gearing up for a return, the turning point in Philadelphia, and the Patrick Kane effect in Detroit.

Let’s do that hockey.

New Jersey Devils

New Jersey Hockey Now: Pointless in six games, it feels like finding the proper place in the Devils’ lineup for Timo Meier has been a struggle. Where does he belong?

The Athletic: Okay, so, as stated earlier, former Devil and current Wild GM, Bill Guerin, is under investigation for alleged abuse, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.

The former Devil was named the fourth general manager of the Wild organization’s franchise history back in August of 2021. He’s a rather aggressive GM in terms of building his team who is unafraid of making deals and trimming the fat when necessary.

However, allegations within the organization of a different kind of aggression arose in mid-November according to the report. According to Russo, five team sources confirmed a complaint to Minnestoa’s HR was made against Guerin’s alleged verbal abuse in the workplace. Guerin has already been cleared of any fireable offense, however, the investigation remains ongoing.

This news comes after former assistant general manager Chris O’Hearn and the Wild agreed to “mutually part ways” which is allegedly related to a separate problem.

Boston Hockey Now: The Bruins’ center depth took a serious hit after Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci retired this summer. Now, Pavel Zacha is sidelined with an injury. Pierre McGuire says the Bruins should be asking Santa for a center.

Detroit Red Wings

Detroit Hockey Now: With the former Art Ross and Hart Trophy winner in Detroit’s lineup, Red Wings players defer to Patrick Kane in the offensive zone.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philly Hockey Now: Sam Ersson and Bobby Brink have been excellent for the Flyers this season. The two forwards are part of a turning point in Philadelphia’s surprising season.

New York Islanders

NYI Hockey Now: According to a new report, former Devil Zach Parise is back on the ice and training. He’s heavily linked to go back to the Islanders, however, multiple teams have inquired about the veteran forward.

Nashville Predators

Nashville Hockey Now: Predators’ former 15th-overall selection, Matthew Wood, was one of the more talented prospects at Team Canada’s selection camp. It should be no surprise to see the 18-year-old make the final cut.
