Devils Daily: The One Where Hockey Took the Day Off

Newark, NJ – Following Game 4 on Saturday, hockey took the day off on Sunday. Instead, the PGA Tour came to its conclusion, as did the horse races at Belmont Park. Despite the lack of ice time, there was still plenty of chatter around the NHL. Let’s dive in.

New Jersey Devils

New Jersey Hockey Now: Now that the dust has settled, Damon Severson couldn’t be happier to join Columbus.

The Athletic: In the summer, the Tkachuks and Fitzgeralds vacation together. Last summer, while the trade that sent Matthew Tkachuk was being facilitated, Tom Fitzgerald was under the same roof as Tkachuk at a rented house in Maine. Fitzgerald tried to sell Tkachuk on New Jersey before he ultimately chose Florida.

More Athletic: All of the focus and attention in the goalie market has been geared toward Connor Hellebuyck. However, there’s another man who will be available this summer. John Gibson’s time in Anaheim appears up. Could he be a fit in New Jersey?

Stanley Cup Final

Vegas Hockey Now: There was chaos in the closing moments of Game 4. When the buzzer sounded, Aiden Hill felt his helmet ripped from his head. Knowing the Golden Knights had one fewer skater on the ice, his saving duties were over and he dropped the gloves with Panthers forward Sam Bennett.

Florida Hockey Now: Matthew Tkachuk entered Game 4 battered and bruised. He took a pretty significant hit in Game 3 before his game-tying heroics. On Saturday, it was apparent that Tkachuk was not himself when he stepped on the ice. He’s giving the Panthers all he’s got despite clearly playing injured.

Calgary Flames

Calgary Hockey Now: The tides are turning in Calgary. They’re not veering off course and suddenly rebuilding. However, there will be changes and that’s already started with Craig Conroy being named General Manager. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, teams have begun to ask Calgary about Noah Hanafin’s availability.

Buffalo Sabres

Buffalo Hockey Now: Jack Eichel is having an astounding playoff. He and the Golden Knights are within one win of claiming the Stanley Cup. He’s been recognized by some pretty formidable celebrities, too. The NBA and TNTs Charles Barkley approached Eichel to let him know how great he is. According to Barkley, however, Eichel had no idea who he was.

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal Hockey Now: To this point in his career, Canadiens prospect Joshua Roy’s evolution has been impressive. He has the option to return to the QMJHL for a fifth year. However, he’s proven all he’s needed to at the Junior level. It’s time for him to make the biggest leap in his career.

Los Angeles Kings

LA Hockey Now: The Kings have a goaltending problem. They currently have just one goaltender under NHL contract, Phoenix Copley. Joonas Korpisalo is set to become a UFA, but the Kings could re-sign him. If not, there are options available on the goalie market, both free agent and trade, for the Kings to sink their teeth into.
