Devils Daily: Help Required; Wilson Hit with Hard Discipline

New Jersey Devils

The Washington Capitals defeating the Carolina Hurricanes last night in the shootout was the worst possible outcome for the New Jersey Devils. A regulation win by Carolina would have been more ideal for the Devils’ playoff odds which have now sunk to 12% as a result of Friday nights Metropolitan Division clash.

The Devils host the Ottawa Senators today and a regulation win would bring their playoff odds back up to 15%.

Before their tilt with Ottawa tonight, New Jersey will have a 10:30 A.M. skate.

In the links, the Nashville Predators victory tonight (hopefully void of overtime) would help the Devils quite a bit in their pipe dream playoff push.

Elsewhere, Tom Wilson is dealt a heavy suspension, Boston’s offseason plans mapped out via trade deadline, and the top restricted free agents this summer.

Let’s do that hockey.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: There’s certainly a talented pool of pending restricted free agents as of this summer. Here’s the latest on the top 12 and where each stands with their club.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The NHL put Washington Capitals bad boy Tom Wilson in timeout for a couple of weeks. Friday afternoon, the NHL suspended Wilson for six games for his flagrant high-sticking penalty on Toronto Maple Leafs’ Noah Gregor Wednesday night.

Boston Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins may have swung and missed on some big NHL trade targets before the March 8 NHL Trade Deadline, but general manager Don Sweeney potentially laid the foundation for a successful offseason.

Philly Hockey Now: When the Philadelphia Flyers first called up Ronnie Attard from the AHL on Feb. 29, many thought that the roster move was a precursor to the Sean Walker trade that ended up taking place six days later. Still on the roster, the Flyers GM is impressed with Attard’s game.

Nashville Hockey Now: After an impressive performance against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night, it might be time for Kevin Lankinen to stop flying under the radar.
