The New Jersey Devils don’t want their first-ever game in Utah to go sideways. It certainly did in Colorado, and that’s the kind of thing that separates them from the great teams in the NHL. Make no mistake, they’re a playoff team and have the bones of a championship roster. However, there are some amendments that need to be made, starting with their top line.

More on that in the links.

Elsewhere, more Brock Boeser trade chatter, Pittsburgh’s goalie has an epic meltdown, and more NHL trade rumors.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

New Jersey Hockey Now: The Devils’ first-line has been held back by Ondrej Palat for far too long. It’s time to give Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt better support.

DailyFaceoff: Now that’s more like it. Another Brock Boeser trade destinations board brings four teams the Vancouver Canucks shooter could land. This time, the Devils make the cut.

Speaking of Boeser, Friedman had a note on him yesterday. It’s not that they won’t trade him, but he doesn’t believe the Canucks have the desire to become worse than their current state. In other words, they’re not moving him for futures.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Oooh boy it’s getting steamy in Steel City. In the second period of the Pittsburgh Penguins‘ tilt hosting the Philadelphia Flyers, Alex Nedeljkovic was pulled after Philly netted their third goal. The Penguins goaltender blew a gasket, breaking his stick over the crossbar, slamming the bench door, yelling at head coach Mike Sullivan, and stormed off to the locker room.

Boston Hockey Now: Trent Frederic is a name many have linked to the Devils. The optics didn’t look good as Frederic struggled to get to his feet and limped towards the Boston Bruins bench before on Tuesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the prognosis isn’t either. Here’s how it could impact Boston’s NHL trade deadline plans.

NYI Hockey Now: After their brutal embarrassment at the hands of the New York Rangers-which was at the time their fourth loss in a row-many have claimed it’s time for the New York Islanders to wave the white flag. Instead, a report suggests Lou Lamoriello is still trying to sign Brock Nelson to an extension despite the plethora of interest on the NHL trade market.
